Natural law is a system of law based on a close observation of natural order and human nature, from which values, thought by the proponents of this concept to be intrinsic to human nature, can be deduced and applied independently of positive law. According to the theory of law called jusnaturalism, all people have inherent rights, conferred not by act of legislation but by "God, nature, or reason." Natural law theory can also refer to "theories of ethics, theories of politics, theories of civil law, and theories of religious morality."

नैसर्गिक कायदा : ज्या तत्त्वाने माणसाचे भौतिक तसेच पारलौकिक जीवनाचे नियमन होते, ज्याची प्रेरणा ईश्वरी असते किंवा निदान मानवी शक्तीपलीकडची असते आणि ज्याचा आधार सत्य, नीती आणि ज्ञान हे असतात, त्या तत्त्वाला व त्यापासून उगम पावणाऱ्या नियमांना ‘नैसर्गिक कायदा’ असे म्हणतात. नैसर्गिक कायदा हा भौतिक व मानवी कायद्यांचा आदर्श असतो. नैसर्गिक कायद्याची संकल्पना पुनःपुन्हा मांडली गेली आहे. काळाप्रमाणे ती बदलली परंतु गेली २,५०० वर्षे माणसाने संपूर्ण न्याय ह्या ध्येयाचा जो पाठपुरावा केला, त्याची ती मुख्य प्रेरणा होती व आहे. बदलत्या सामाजिक व राजकीय संदर्भांबरोबर नैसर्गिक कायद्याचा आशय बदलला असला, तरी त्याचे सूत्र कायम राहिले. ते सूत्र म्हणजे आदर्श तत्त्वे आणि संपूर्ण न्याय. या सूत्रानुसार प्रचलित विधी किंवा कायद्यांची प्रमाणता ठरविण्यात येते, तसेच अन्यायी कायद्याविरुद्ध व जुलमी सत्तेविरुद्ध विद्रोहही करण्यात येतो.
